In Ashland County, WI, burning permits are required by the Wisconsin DNR for legal and responsible burning in the outdoors. The process involves obtaining a free permit online or by calling the hotline. It is crucial to check the daily burning restrictions and fire conditions before burning. The permit application includes safety messages and guidelines for burning responsibly. For more information, businesses or commercial entities burning waste materials may need to contact the DNR solid waste specialist.

Call Before You Dig

Before starting any project that involves digging—such as planting trees, installing a fence or mailbox, building a deck, or doing any excavation—residents are required by Wisconsin law to contact Diggers Hotline. This free service helps locate underground utility lines so you can dig safely and avoid damage. Utility companies will send locators to mark the approximate location of underground lines (electric, gas, communications, water, sewer) with flags or paint so you know where it is safe to dig.
