Straightening the Curve: North York Road Summer Project

This summer, one of our major road projects focused on improving safety and visibility on North York Road by straightening one of the “S” curves. To accomplish this, our crew removed 20 trees and stumps and hauled away multiple loads of dirt to take down an 8-foot-high, 40-foot-long hill. This allowed us to shift the roadway 14 feet to remove the sharpest part of the curve.

In addition to moving the road, we:

  • Graveled, ditched, and seeded the shoulder
  • Replaced 20 culverts
  • Began pulling in and reshaping road shoulders (planned as a 2-year project)
  • Performed extensive road grading
  • Mowed the shoulders and ditches
  • Hauled gravel to areas that needed it

All of this work was completed by our two town employees, Mike and Neil. Their hard work and dedication made a big improvement to North York Road, and we’re proud of the job they’ve done. 🍁

Previous Gilgen Road is looking great!
